PERSONAL PROFILE

Dr. Guixue Wang graduated from Chongqing University (Ph.D. in 1998 Major in Biomechanics). After the completion of postdoctoral research at Laval University, he joined Chongqing University in September 2000 to carry out teaching/research work.

He has undertaken a total of 46 projects at all levels, including 13 national level projects, 28 provincial and ministerial level projects, and received research funding of over 65 million yuan. He has jointly published 470 papers with domestic and foreign scholars, in which 320 are indexed by SCI and 170 are indexed by EI. His team has been authorized more than 60 domestic and international patents, and won 6 provincial and ministerial science and technology and teaching achievement awards, 3 national industry associations and societies awards.

His areas of research interest include vascular biomechanics and mechanobiology, tissue repair materials and minimally invasive interventional medical devices, which integrate research in basic theories of mechanobiology, hemodynamic mechanisms and therapeutic technologies of vascular injury repair. The hypothesis of concentration polarization of atherogenic lipids in the arterial system was first confirmed by his team using a zebrafish-mouse-rabbit model system. They developed the vascular injury repair kinetics theory and proposed a new viewpoint of vascular repair kinetics to accelerate endothelial regeneration and inhibit vascular restenosis and the recurrence of atherosclerosis. The mechanisms by which arsenic trioxide drug-eluting stents inhibit thrombosis and restenosis have been elucidated. Following the vascular repair kinetics theory, several vascular implant surface modification technologies have also been innovatively developed. For example, the technologies of asymmetric coating directional release technology, coaxial electrostatic spraying of micronanoparticles, and stable release of multilevel drug coating have made possible for double-sided asymmetry, continuous, differential and slow release of drugs inside and outside the stent and, therefore, accelerated endothelial repair and inhibit thrombosis and restenosis. These technological achievements have been translated to the product development of some medical device companies. His team helped the company create new interventional catheters and intravascular stents, benefiting nearly 3 million patients and saving 3.6 billion yuan of medical expenses in the last three years. Some achievements have won the first prize awarded by the Chongqing Municipal Government, two first prizes of science and technology progress or natural science awarded by Chongqing University, and the first prize awarded by the Chongqing Industry-University-Research Association, which he ranked first in all four awards. He also won the First Prize awarded by the China Industry-University-Research Association, which he ranked second.

He has done a lot of student training and supervision work. A total of 25 postdoctoral fellows, 60 doctoral students, and 110 master’s students were recruited and trained. Among these students, 34 graduates are now at an associate professor level, 16 professors and doctoral supervisors.
