【PERSONAL PROFILE】

Dr. Cai graduated from Tianjin University (Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering 2002.02). After the completion of postdoctoral research at Friedrich-Schiller- University Jena University, he joined Chongqing University (2005.04) to carry out teaching/research work. He is the dean of Bioengineering College of CQU. He is currently holding a Distinguished Young Scientist Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). He has presided 6 Projects supported National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), 12 Projects supported by Ministry of Science and Technology or Chongqing Science and Technology Bureau. He has published 240 papers in journals such as Adv Mater, Adv Funct Mater, ACS Nano, Biomaterials etc. Many papers were selected as Highly Cited Papers of journals, or highlighted by media such as Mater View etc. Moreover, he has applied and obtained 16 patents of inventions. Current courses taught by Dr. Cai include Tissue Engineering and Biomaterials Science, Freshman Seminar, Frontiers in Biomedical Engineering etc. He has supervised 56 master students and 18 Ph.D. students, 15 of whom have won the Ministry of Education/ Chongqing University/Chongqing society Distinguished Master/Doctoral Thesis awards.

【RESEARCH INTERESTS】

Cai’s research group focuses on the cell /tissue microenvironment inspired design of biointerface for orthopedic implants and nanoparticles for cancer therapy.

1. The surfaces/interfaces of titanium/titanium alloys and their interactions with cells;

2. Environments responsive drug delivery nanocarriers or micro-device for tumor therapy;

3. The development of functional titanium-based implants for anti- osteoporosis or antibacterial applications
